This entire passage from the fallout over @kateconger's reporting is another example of tech not understanding the basics of journalism
I've spent twenty minutes trying to figure out how the Times "overplayed their hand." That leads me to believe Google employees think that the NYT tech reporting staff are all rubbing their hands together like Mr. Burns, plotting to take down Google at every instance
Also, any journalist worth paying attention to, when given information about something big happening within a big company, is going to get that information out ASAP. Google's CEO addressing Dragonfly qualifies as "something big." Sitting on that info is a dereliction of duty.

Here's a thing about disability narratives.

Lot of people are fine with the idea of designated seats for people who have problems standing, even if they have a very narrow view of that: people who look elderly, heavily pregnant, or have a crutch.

They're fine with grandma (especially if it's their grandma) having a special chair set aside for her at the wedding reception, and also with grandma getting up and busting -- to the best of her ability -- a move, before collapsing back into her chair.
If there's a bench at the bus stop, they're fine with grandma -- a respectable grandma, at least -- being given a seat on it in deference of younger, more able-bodied people who were there before her.

There are many ways the formal US emergency management system fails women but not preparing for the increase in domestic violence post-disaster is one of the most egregious.

Here’s what the research says:

Post-disaster the number of women who seek out domestic violence shelters & the number of reported cases of domestic violence increase. There is a resurgence/ increase in abuse & new cases of abuse reported.
Survivors who left abusive relationships pre-disaster may re-enter these relationships post-disaster. When someone loses their home & does not have the ability to access resources they may have no option but to return to their abusers in an effort to met needs like housing.
