How Trump's Advisers Schooled Him on Globalism voanews.com/a/trump-advise… An old article. But it occurs to me Americans need this briefing--or something as close to it as you can have in public--and it would do more good to tell this to Americans than to tell it to Trump.
Could there be a commercial market for a TV show called "The Briefing," covering what Trump's advisors probably explained to him, with a host asking the kinds of questions Trump might have asked, and the briefers answering those questions seriously and respectfully?
I have the feeling most Americans are baffled about why we have bases and troops all over the world, what we get out of them, how this helps them personally. From the article, it sounds as if they explained to him, "This is what this does to help your businesses."
Something like that geared to American *voters* might help them understand what's going on, what the costs and benefits really are and to whom, and decide for whom to vote based on the briefing, basically, that Trump received.
If done well it could be extremely dramatic--it sounds as if they managed to hold his attention the whole way through--and I really feel that Americans would like to understand all this better, to understand how our military & FP establishment sees the world, and why.
It needn't be longer than the actual briefing--perhaps two hours?--and not much would have to be cut because it's so secret: The not-secret-at-all parts are really the key. I wonder even if the original briefers would agree to do it? Why shouldn't they?
Why not explain to the public they're serving what it is exactly that they do, why it's important, and how it matters to them? And wouldn't you like to watch that show? I would.
A show replicating this as closely as possible--and if Trump understood it and was interested in it, surely the US public would be too. But it's more important in many ways that the public knows this.
We after all need to decide whether we think this makes sense, and if so, elect candidates with the competence to oversee it. And if we decide it doesn't make sense, we need to elect candidates who can dismantle it in the least destructive way. Either way, we should understand.
We the People of the United States--in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity--are the sovereigns here.
We can only make good decisions about who to elect if we have, at least, as much information about what the US does in the world--and why, and what might happen if we didn't--as Trump received in that briefing.
