Someone asked earlier what we do to make our games more accessible, and I have some answers for that. >
1. It starts with text and art that includes:
-Non-binary characters
-Gay, lesbian, and bi characters
-The majority of our characters are neither white nor male
-Size representation
-Age representation >
-Depiction of characters who struggle with mental illness, depression, anxiety, PTSD, and more (but who are not portrayed as victims).
-Depiction of characters who deal with chronic illnesses, mobility issues, or physical impediments.
2. And continues with community:
Our small company is half women and sexually diverse. We actively support all people who play our games and come to our tables. We donate to charities and organizations that do the same. >
We uplift and shout out about other companies, individuals, and products that support diversity and inclusion. We actively seek out and support underrepresented groups and players to show them that gaming can be a welcoming, safe space for everyone. >
We are not perfect. But we go forward heart-first, are willing to learn and grow, and are fierce in our belief that #GamingIsForEveryone >
If you want to suggest something else we can do, we're always open to learning more and doing more. You can drop me an email anytime at shanna@montecookgames.com
I forgot to add that the majority of our covers feature people of color and women. Because we think it should be easy to see yourself represented in our games. You don't even have to open the book.
As part of 2. community, we also pay our employees good wages, and offer health care, retirement plans, and bonuses when we're able.
I keep thinking of things, because this isn't usually something we shout about. We just do it. Because it's the way that it should be done.

But since someone asked, this is my chance :)
We also offer free PDFs and inexpensive Starter Kits, and encourage groups to buy products together to defray costs. We donate products to schools, libraries, humble bundles, & organizations. Our Kickstarters allow us to offer large amounts of products for much less than retail.
And we actively work to be good stewards of our community and world, and to Do No Harm. Not to other creators or companies. Not to players or GMs or fans. Not to those who are trying, but make mistakes. Not to ourselves, each other, our community, or the planet.
