🐙Genesis of the OSS

The Office of Strategic Services (OSS) was a wartime intelligence agency of the United States during World War II, and a predecessor to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USG/J…
The OSS was formed as an agency of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS)[3] to coordinate espionage activities behind enemy lines for all branches of the US Armed Forces.

Other OSS functions included the use of propaganda, subversion, & post-war planning.

ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USG/J…
The organization was developed with British assistance.

Until some months after Pearl Harbor, the bulk of OSS intelligence came from the UK.

British Security Co-ordination (BSC) trained the first OSS agents in Canada.

I'm pissed at Twitter ATM. So I'll make a deal with the world, to #DecentralizeSocialMedia.

If a group of >3 motivated coders say they'll devote significant spare time to building a better—truly decentralized, not merely federated—#socialmedia network, then I would offer...
...to write reasonably detailed requirements for the system, get behind it, and use and promote it (FWIW).

I mean a new but old-fashioned nonprofit #OSS network. The for-profit groups on offer are uninspiring.

If you are a dev who's interested, introduce yourself.
I can tell you the general idea though.

Basically, what needs to exist is a system that allows me to have a totally independent social media feed, and to subscribe to somebody else's totally independent feed, all from an app I control.

✨🧠 The ecosystem that has grown up around @TensorFlow in the last few years blows my mind. There's just so much functionality, compared to some of the other, newer frameworks.

👉Consider this an ever-expanding thread for me to take notes + wrap my brain around products. Ready?
1) @TensorFlow Extended (TFX)

It's no secret that I 💕 #TFX and all of its tooling for deploying machine learning models into production. If you care about keeping your models up-to-date and monitoring them, you should check out the product + its paper.

2) @TensorFlow Hub

If you want to train your model on a small data set, or improve generalization, you'll need to use something called transfer learning. #TFHub modules make it easy—and are available in an #OSS marketplace: tfhub.dev.

Excellent advice from @fchollet

Missing: Disclaimer: The [job] market can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent. The Thomas theorem may apply.

Nikola Tesla, Walter Pitts, Vincent van Gogh, Alan Turing, Socrates, HP Lovecraft,…

You may not be that clever.
I'm not that clever, and yet, my thoughts revolve around quitting my job more and more. I'm willing to accept austerity, poverty, and misery. But not homelessness. I'm compromising, in an explicit and clear way. Do you compromise consciously?

youtube.com/playlist?list=…
Life is short. You are what you do, not what anybody says or thinks. What do you want to be before you no longer are? How much of your life do you need to compromise to afford that? There are no guarantees of time left, try to cut some corners.
