Here's the new Google Transparency page for political ads transparencyreport.google.com/political-ads/…
Here's recently launched Make America Great Again Committee ads, with spend between $1k and $50k.
By spend, what's the biggest ad? "Take the media accountability survey". Basically lots of ads, all the same.
1,321 total ads by that committee since May 31, spending $629,500
a large portion of that in the first week of August
Advertisers by spend
One noticeable problem: disappearing ads
By far, Florida has received most ad spend by any campaign group (twice as much as the next highest, Tennessee). Florida's 10th District has gotten 10%+ of all ads.
Typical video page. "Tell Congress you want the wall!". No details on who was targeted though. Mainly efforts to gather email addresses by the looks of it.
Click through to the video. Note it's unlisted. 422k views since August 2.
(Would be quite easy to build a realtime views tracker (rather than the ranges the page gives) for every video here btw, I await someone building it)
Ugh this is bad folks. $189,400 of ads for "Tennessee jobs now", mostly now missing. *I think* there's a one week lag on display, which is a problem if you want to track ads
Google can do *much* better than this. Also, we need laws to oblige this. The CTA links are also missing from many of the YouTube vids.
First reaction: short on detail, short on data. Yet again civic actors or journalists will have to build a sensible layer on top of it - unless this is just V1, Google? If there's a lag on vids then vids can easily be run and then deleted too.
Argh. House Majority PAC ads. Mostly gone. ($300k of ad spend) transparencyreport.google.com/political-ads/…
Wonder just how many ads TRUMP MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN COMMITTEE has been running on YouTube? It looks like this. $629,500 worth.
TBQH does needs to be *an awful* lot better. Is there an API? What's the lag? Why no realtime data? Why the obscurity around per State or per district breakdowns? I can't drill down to see the ads in Florida's 10th for example?
Most recently launched image-based ads, with Trump as keyword
7 image ads with greater than 10m impressions. None loading.
The National Republican Congressional Committee has the most expensive image ad of all, can't see it though.
Recent NRCC video ad "President Trump has done great things". Unlisted on YouTube, 44k views so far.
