Gold: I've had a busy morning reconciling data from the CFTC website with that which I download from Bloomberg to ensure that that I’m using the right information in our charts and research. (1/3)
Gold: The reason I did this was that someone, who I respect, told me that my recent charts, shown below were wrong. After a few hours of work, I’m happy to confirm that I have the same data as is available from the CFTC website. (2/3)
Gold: Although this could have been viewed as a waste of time, it does no harm to spend some time checking the integrity of important data and I’m glad it turned out that there was no problem in my spreadsheet #nerd #DataGeek. (3/3)

Gold: Bit of a groundhog day today, gold at $1283/oz, slightly weaker in Asia trading overnight after talks of 'good progress' on US-China trade talks. US Equity futures modestly green and ETFs added gold again, now the eight straight day.

Gold: my technical analysis-minded frieds have noted that gold had done a lot, quickly, and that it would be healthy if the market saw a period of consolidation to let the RSI come lower - perhaps what's happening now is healthy.

Gold: Considering that we had a very strong Employment Report out of the US on Friday, #gold performed pretty well over the past 18 trading hours. At $1291/oz at the time of writing it is some $15 above its post-NFP plunge and only about $7 below Friday morning's high.

Gold: I find it ironic that that the government shutdown is making it 'harder' to trade #gold with confidence.

The CFTC's commitment of traders (COT) report is delayed indefinately while the US government is out of action.

Gold: Fortunately, Comex is not a government entity and continues to function. As you can see from here, open interest is reported daily and has increased quite a lot (4moz equiv) since 18 December.

Gold: Simplistically, with gold prices going up and OI up, speculators are likely adding to longs, driving the OI change and helping the price move higher.

I estimate the net managed money long is now at least 6.5 moz but could be more if short covering has happened too.

UCC had opportunity to comment on the #Data.Protection & Privacy Bill. The enactment of this law is long overdue. A comprehensive law on the collection & processing personal information gives effect to the right to Privacy envisaged under Article 27(2) of the Constitution
UCC welcome the protections offered by the Bill in terms of export of data, breach notification requirements, data subjects access rights, automated decision making, compensation and the right to be forgotten and provision for financial and penal sanctions for breach of the law.
Distinction between Data collectors & data controllers.
The Bill should however clarify & distinguish Data Collectors, from Data Processors & Data Controllers. Clause 2 is inconsistent with international good practice which provides for two broad categories of Data Controllers

1) Though the word ASSASSIN is used in the Wounded Kingdom books (a bit, you may not have noticed though) they are actually modeled on ninja.
2) The reason I didn't call them ninja is it carries too much weight. People have very definite ideas of what a ninja is. Assassin is a bit less specific.
