So the best we can hope for from a #NoDealBrexit is a BLT and the Army definitely not distributing food? (1/3)
Credit card payments will rise, British citizens living on the continent might lose access to bank accounts & pensions, businesses will have to pay tariffs on imported goods, and who knows what'll happen on the Irish border – but at least we're "taking back control", right? (2/3)
No one voted for this nightmare - and the fact we're only learning how bad #NoDealBrexit could be more than 2 years after the vote exposes the incompetence of this Govt.

It's past time ministers listened to the public. We need #PeoplesVote - a real choice over our future. (3/3)

The Government has today released long-awaited draft of new Environment Bill. 💚🌍📜 This is welcome 👏 - but I see a number of alarming sections. 🤔🚨 A thread. 1/6
1⃣ The environmental principles currently guaranteed under 🇪🇺 law *must* carry the same legal weight as they do now. Draft clauses says Gov't should "have regard to" but we know that leaves too much wiggle room. This must change. 2/6
2⃣ Those key principles won't apply to any public spending decision or 'any other matter' specified by Government - a truly absurd caveat to vital rules protecting our oceans, wildlife and animals. This Get Out of Jail Free card must go. 3/6

There seem to me to be three key paragraphs in the Attorney General's legal advice to the Prime Minister on the Protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland - the 'backstop - in the Withdrawal Agreement.

Here they are. 1/4

Para 16: The Protocol will "endure indefinitely".
Para 30: The review mechanism does not provide a unilateral route out of the backstop. 2/4
Para 33 (conclusion): There is a legal risk that UK could become stuck in "protracted and repeating rounds of negotiations". 3/4 #Brexit #Art50

Parents need food banks to put dinner on the table. Most of those parents have a job. #Budget2018
We've gone from being a country of free higher education to one which passes on mountains of debt to the next generation.

1/ With 2018 drawing to an end we are looking back at a year with many ups and some downs.
2/ In March 2018 the #citizensrights part of the Withdrawal Agreement was finalised.

Though not optimal, especially for our friends the @BritishInEurope who will lose onward movement, for the first time since the referendum EU citizens in the UK had some form of certainty.
3/ Towards the end of 2018 the threat of #NoDealBrexit was growing though. The #citizensrights certainty provided by the Withdrawal Agreement slipping away slowly. Replaced by ‘unilateral promises’ of fewer rights with lesser future protection.

1. Ministers have left their No Deal planning very late in the day. A lot of questions remain to be answered, and they seem to be relying on continued co-operation with the EU without any indication of what would happen if this was not forthcoming. 1/6
2. A failure to reach agreement with the EU would also mean no transition period so all this uncertainty could be just seven months away. The papers published today tell us three things.
3. First, they confirm that No Deal - far from being better than a bad deal - would be very damaging economically. Businesses exporting to the EU would face the cost and bureaucracy of customs and rules of origin declarations for the first time and, in some cases, tariffs.

I feel like a few things need to be cleared up among fellow Remainers, regarding the differences/similarities in loss of rights depending on who could/couldn't vote, or where they are/are from. It's been sad to see so much fighting about this. 1/
There are several groups of people, all Remainers, but all affected very differently by Brexit. It's not to say that people with less to lose are less important- that's absolutely not the case. But there are differences that we need to be respectful of 2/
There are the 16 million British people who voted to remain, and are now losing their freedom of movement, their rights as EU citizens, and their rights to be heard as a substantial minority by a government no longer listening. 3/

I usually avoid questioning people's intelligence at all costs but I can't help but think that future generations will look back at us arguing over what "No Deal" means and think "The clue's in the ***** title!!!"

▪️The right to live in their own homes of 1.4 million British people living across Europe.
▪️Our NHS having access to radioactive cancer treatments (which we don't make here)
▪️UK planes and pilot licences being authorised in EU & US
▪️Lorries carrying fresh food and urgent orders moving quickly through ports at Dover & Calais
▪️UK certified products and services automatically being deemed legal by other countries courts
▪️UK citizens abroad being able to seek shelter in the embassies of any EU country
