Another thread on @RudyGiuliani's anti-anti-corruption campaign in Romania, his failure to disclose, and a possible conflict between that work & his representation of President Trump:
Last week, @RudyGiuliani wrote a letter to the President of Romania, complaining about Romania's anti-corruption measures, but Giuliani never mentioned that he had been paid to write the letter.
Romanian politicians apparently thought Giuliani's letter was "based on his professional experience rather than part of a paid engagement," according to a story in today's WP wapo.st/2C3jJv4
Giuliani's very public status as President Trump's lawyer may make his advocacy more persuasive to foreign politicians, who may (mistakenly) believe that Giuliani is speaking on behalf of his client, Trump.
That may have happened in Romania, according to today's WP story by @rick_n & @amarnadhir
We don't know whether the client who hired @RudyGiuliani to write his anti-anti-corruption letter did so because of Giuliani's connection to Trump.
But Giuliani's failure to disclose that he had been hired to write the letter appears to violate a legal ethics rule requiring such disclosure, as I discussed in an earlier thread:
Giuliani seems to acknowledge a misstep, according to @jdawsey1 & @thamburger in this article: “Maybe I should have put in the letter that I’m not representing the president.” wapo.st/2MEyF7T
It would be interesting to see the representation agreement between @RudyGiuliani & @realDonaldTrump, to see how (if at all) Giuliani explained how his representation of other clients could impact Trump (and the United States).
