In my latest for @Verge, I reflect on the Jacksonville shooting. Games--or even the sometimes ugly subcultures in gaming--don't cause violence. It is, and has always been, the guns. theverge.com/2018/8/30/1779…
But the industry can, and must respond in particular ways nonetheless. @SimonParkin's 2013 report on game studios licencing the rights to portray real guns in their games remains apt. Some of that money invariably goes to the NRA. eurogamer.net/articles/2013-…
We still have a responsibility to make our communities more welcoming, to clean up our toxic subculture, and to hold the most powerful people in the industry to account on issues like these. Those are productive avenues to pursue for those who want to "do something."
