When we hear that GDP is rising & the economy is booming, there’s an implication that all are Americans are reaping the benefits equally – yet the reality is that wages for middle-class workers remain flat & the income inequality gap continues to worsen.
As @paulkrugman writes, “GDP numbers have been good in recent quarters, but much of the growth has gone to soaring corporate profits, while median real wages have gone nowhere.”

Our new bill will help present a clear & accurate picture of who the economy is really working for.

Hard to believe Senate Republicans are trying again to vote on the nomination of Thomas Farr as a federal judge in NC. Farr's represented the NC legislature in not 1, not 2, but 3 challenges to the state’s 2011 congressional and legislative redistricting. Here’s how that went:
In 2016-17, Farr represented NC in Covington v. NC, a challenge to the state’s 2011 legislative redistricting alleging each of NC’s 19 state House districts & 9 state Senate districts constituted a racial gerrymander violating the Equal Protection Clause. brennancenter.org/legal-work/nor…
In Covington v. NC, Farr argued that race was not the primary factor used in the redistricting. And even if it was, Farr argued the NC legislature’s use of race was reasonably necessary to comply with the Voting Rights Act. The trial court rejected this argument.

Farr is a serious threat to voting rights. Americans need to tell Senate Republicans to block this nomination.
Farr defended the Republican-controlled North Carolina Legislature in a challenge to the restrictive voting laws it enacted shortly after the Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Roberts, gutted the Voting Rights Act.
After gathering data on the use of certain voting practices broken down by race, the North Carolina Legislature drafted a law that targeted voting practices like early voting and same-day registration that were disproportionately utilized by African-American voters.

The American people should look at what Republicans are doing, rather than what they’re saying, when it comes to health care.
Republicans are once again undermining protections for people with pre-existing conditions and sabotaging our health care system.
Today, the administration plainly admitted its intention is to use taxpayer dollars to fund junk insurance plans that don’t cover pre-existing conditions, which could lead to medical bankruptcy for many American families in order to pad the pockets of health insurance executives.

We need to wake up to the problems of the Politics of Poverty in Nigeria. According to NBS figures, looking at economic cycles, we have periods of Economic growth & downturns; But the poverty level grew in Nigeria during BOTH periods. So more became poor in growth as in downturn
This reveals that successive Govts did not lift Nigerians out of poverty regardless of the state or performance of the economy. So no govt since 1975 can claim to be not guilty of this incompetence management of the economy. So what is the problem?
Nigerian economy works on patronage that keeps its benefit circulating only amongst a few people. The majority are not carried along. In fact, the poor in Nigeria feed the Rich. It is poor tenant that makes money for rich landlord. How can our economy be made to be poor-focused?

The more you believe in the societal benefits of economic growth, the more meaning (& respect) you’ll find in work that boosts growth but doesn’t feel as directly rewarding—or look as noble—as, say, teaching (e.g. most finance, b2b SaaS, some crypto speculation).

And vice versa.
