On September 1, 2018, one or more explosions occurred at Mezzeh airbase in Damascus. There are competing stories as to the cause. We downloaded tweets containing "Mezzeh", resulting in 4764 tweets from 3588 accounts, 246 of which (6.9%) were flagged as likely to be automated.
(Criteria for automation test explained here)
There are two major narratives being pushed regarding the Mezzeh airbase explosion.

1) The airbase was attacked by another country's military (Israel is the most frequently suggested culprit.)
2) Electrical accident (this is the official explanation from the Syrian military.)
We categorized all the accounts with original tweets about the explosion based on the story they provided (missile strike or electrical accident). Some accounts expressed no opinion, and some of those further noted that both stories were circulating.
In the process of studying the Twitter traffic related to the Mezzeh explosion, we came across an interesting account: @1foolon1hill. Sputnik, default pic, 946 followers, and 78K tweets over 4 years, all but a couple dozen of which are links to news articles/videos.
This pie chart shows the breakdown of media links in @1foolon1hill's most recent 3200 tweets. It's a smorgasbord of fringy conspiracy-laden news sites and Russian state media. Speaking of which, more than one Russian news site has featured this nondescript account's tweets.
What does @1foolon1hill tweet about (or rather, link articles about)? 38% of the account's tweets contain one or more of the keywords shown in this chart. The transition from Ukraine-related material to Trump is notable.
Both Boris Nemtsov and Alexander Litvinenko were assassinated, likely on Kremlin orders. @1foolon1hill is skeptical of that explanation of both murders. Also, check out the RT link about social media companies banning people being worse for US democracy than Russian interference.
We didn't find much back story for @1foolon1hill, as almost all the tweets are article links. There were a couple tweets directed at an Ohio radio station, but if this user is in Ohio, they're a huge night owl. Also, "gaol" is not a spelling that is generally used in US English.
A big thank you to @ZellaQuixote for research assistance with this slightly meandering thread.
