Pinchai uses a very weak excuse to defend Project Drafonfly: “We are compelled by our mission [to] provide information to everyone, and [China is] 20 percent of the world's population.”

First, many orgs have to balance cultural values w/int’l markets. This isn’t a new problem & certainly not a new problem for Google. “Balancing cultural values” doesn’t obligate compliance w/every restrictive regime. Google knows this, and it’s disingenuous to claim otherwise.

Gov has always had an interest in monitoring social agitators. In America, we balance that interest against the *far more important* interests of free speech, free assembly, and fair political process.
Anything that threatens the fairness and legitimacy of the legal system is a threat to democracy. The rule of law is one of the last tools we have for saving democratic values in the face of un-democratic leaders, in any branch of gov.

This view is all too common among those purporting to build new decentralized tech "for everyone" - it doesn't work.

The margins must drive the function, it is there that your models break.
Technology designed from the weighted side of the power asymmetry will fail those whose lives are lived under that power asymmetry. More so it will fail those communities - by design -
It will fail black and indigenous people of colour, queer people, trans and non-binary people, sex workers and those with low/no income, not through malice, but through sheer ignorance of the technology to resist the authoritarian/puritan/supremacist impulses of the majority.

If Success Rate is 0.5 and Reward Risk 2, Then

Expectancy = 2 x 0.5 =1

For Making Profit, Expectancy Should Be Positive Number (2/n)
To Calculate Expectancy, You Need Defined System With Rules To Get Success Rate and Reward Risk. If You Have No System To Take Decisions, You Are Hanging In Thin Air and Will Never No Whether You Will Keep Making Or Loosing Money In Future (3/n)

#New PA cong. map increases D chance of winning the House majority by 4%. They only need a 6.8% generic ballot margin now (down from 7.7) to be favored.

Diff. will be closer to 10% in Nov when uncertainty from polls is ⬇️. Redraw is a very big deal.

One major reason the new PA map is such a big gain for Democrats is that it solidifies, not just tips, PA districts in Philly burbs. Also creates one additional vulnerable R district. (Easily seen in this map made by @JMilesColeman)
My forecasting model will have new PA map in the near future. This is not just a simple switch; it’s a coding redesign, restructuring of input, & drawing new geographic files. Takes a while (for me, a student).
