1/2 Not entirely seeing as African ethnicities are not nationally restricted and were scattered across the Americas. There are certainly Americans that share ethnic origins and thus phenotype with people in Jamaica or Haiti and by extension Ghana and Congo.
2/2 However I would agree that Saldana cast as Nina Simon was an example of that kind of stupidity and re Harriet what I want to know is was Viola offered the role FIRST?
Not because she is American but because she is supremely good and would smash it out of the park and could be made to look more like Harriet than the lady they have cast.
