On the SA2 in Vietnam
Effective electronic counter measures, chaff, and evasive flying helped to make the percentage of interceptor launches vs strikes low. But important to remember the sheer numbers of these things, leading to:
Different Air Force and some upgraded SAMs working alongside the SA-2 in 1973, but a similar kill ratio

The Turkish MoD remain focused on the Manbij Roadmap, independent of all the broader, Bolton related issues. This remains an odd outlier in this saga, given that in December 2018, US + TR began the vetting process in line with roadmap text

It was the RTE escalation that, at Turkey’s intial request, leads to the POTUS call, where Trump surprises everyone (including Bolton and RTE). With today’s implosion, we’re oddly back to where this started — albeit with an announced withdrawal and more Russians.

I have a rather benign interpretation of the Turkish drip drip approach: 1) They are good at it. This is how the Turkish media works these days; 2) KSA killed someone in Turkey, violating sovereignty in a particularly brazen and brutal manner.
The results are considerable and should be studied: Ankara has created a single point of contact, controls the information, and has managed to get the NYT, WaPo, MEE, Sabah, and Yeni Safak to all write the same exact thing.
This process has also allowed Erdogan to remain above it all, even though much of — if not all — of the information is coming from subordinates in his office.

The very vague terms seem at odds with the new Trump admin approach. Seems like TR signed up to disarm its allies of heavy weapons & to jointly patrol in HTS areas (w/ RU) to force capitulation (while lambasting the SDF as the real threat). I dont understand US enthusiasm
It is my understanding that the US has been telling the Syrian opposition not to reconcile with the regime but (and again the details are very, very murky) that this is a quasi-reconciliation deal that TR will have to sell to its allies. IRI and Assad can swallow this outcome
I actually think TR deserves credit for accepting (albeit at the barrel end of a gun) the inevitable. But I also think there will be considerable implementation problems here. How will TR disarm its own allis of heavy weapons? And splitting HTS seems dubious to me. Always has.

#VS-Mitarbeiter erzählt im #NSUUA, dass in der Auswertung zwischen "Neonazis" und "NPD" unterschieden wurde. Wer also aus den Freien Kräften kommt und in die NPD eintritt, wird nicht mehr unter "Neonazi" geführt.
So klingt die Zahl der Neonazis gleich ein bisschen besser ☝️
Gleich wurde übrigens mit "Überläufern" von organisierter Kriminalität und Neonazis bzw NPD verfahren, obwohl VS-Mitarbeiter selbst Fall nennt, in dem jemand aus Türsteher/Rockerszene auch im NPD-Ordnungsdienst aktiv war. #nsuuath
Noch mehr Hits: Mitarbeiter war zuständig für NPD-Vorstand, also auch für Thorsten Heise, aber nicht für dessen Musikvertrieb, zb von dem Song "Dönerkiller", in dem schon vor der Selbstenttarnung des Kerntrios die Mordserie des #NSU besungen wurde. #nsuuath

Yesterday late afternoon #Russia/n forces took 3 positions in Qusseyr and Juseh and established checkpoints. #Hezbollah, not informed of the Russian presence, came close to these forces and asked their immediate pull out+
Following the direct intervention of President Bashar al-Assad, the Russian force pulled out this morning and avoided any clash with #Hezbollah in the area.

hezbollah maantin and kept all positions. The #Russia/n move was not coordinated.+

#Hezbollah did not...I repeat, did not pull out one single element from the area.

I spoke to people on the ground: The Russian decision was unclear and considered unwelcome by the forces on the ground. Still, many elements of this move are unclear.

Some things in the first year were fun: meeting like-minded people, the #scifi characters, learning how to take effective action. Celebrating #victories like beating the #ACA repeal bills.

A lot of it wasn't fun - the threats of nuclear war, the daily stress of bad news. 2

Vietnamese authorities should immediately release the blogger Nguyen Van Hoa who was sentenced on Monday to seven years in prison on charges of disseminating "propaganda against the state."
In a one-day trial, a court in the province of #HaTinh sentenced Hoa to 7 years in prison and three years of house arrest under article 88 of the penal code, an anti-state provision that carries maximum 20-year prison terms for the offense of "propagandizing" against the state.
