The very vague terms seem at odds with the new Trump admin approach. Seems like TR signed up to disarm its allies of heavy weapons & to jointly patrol in HTS areas (w/ RU) to force capitulation (while lambasting the SDF as the real threat). I dont understand US enthusiasm
It is my understanding that the US has been telling the Syrian opposition not to reconcile with the regime but (and again the details are very, very murky) that this is a quasi-reconciliation deal that TR will have to sell to its allies. IRI and Assad can swallow this outcome
I actually think TR deserves credit for accepting (albeit at the barrel end of a gun) the inevitable. But I also think there will be considerable implementation problems here. How will TR disarm its own allis of heavy weapons? And splitting HTS seems dubious to me. Always has.
