I still think the Democrats believe they're meeting their basic objectives of casting a cloud over the nominee and teaching their followers to shriek about Trump putting a sexual predator on the Court. I think they badly misread how the broader electorate will see all this.
You can already see the media action line turning to "Republicans thwarted a fair investigation of these explosive allegations." Dems will milk that talking point for years to come. The "fact checking" media will never correct them on it.
Democrats think they can repeat that narrative ad nauseum, unchallenged by news media and magnified by their control of popular culture, until it becomes the "official history" of Kavanaugh. Everybody will "know" Republicans abused his accuser and thwarted the investigation.
Notice how a few of the older lefties began bleating about Anita Hill a few days into the Kavanaugh affair. They've treated her as a crusading hero for decades. They've maintained the narrative that Justice Thomas was unfairly confirmed despite abusing her.
It's Democrat SOP, but again, I think they badly misread the electorate at a crucial moment leading up to the midterms. The American people still believe in standards of evidence and the presumption of innocence. Too many of them see this for the cheap late hit it was.
Most of the American public is not feverish with "Resistance" madness. They don't want left-wing kooks paralyzing gov't for years to come and using it to launch nonstop attacks on Trump. They're not into mindless obstructionism and rabid partisanship.
The hit on Kavanaugh is a vital reminder of what the Democrat Party has in store for America if they take the House or Senate in the midterms. It will be nothing but this crap, over and over again. What sane person wants that?
The last hope for Dems is that Republicans are too nervous about alienating the women's vote to make any hay about the busted Kavanaugh hit. Don't be intimidated, Republicans. Women believe in the rule of law and presumption of innocence too. They want a gov't that works. /end
