Met our neighbor's kid who is studying in 7th standard. They are having exams now. He finished Social exam today. Asked him what do they teach.

"History is the most difficult one. Too many kings to learn about"

Which Kings I asked him 1/
"Mughals. Akbar the great who was the strongest. But there are others. There is Babue, Humayun, Akbar, Jehangir, Shah Jahan, Aurangazeb." 2/
What happened after that, I asked him.
"After that the kingdom broke into many pieces. The rulers after Aurangazeb were not strong" 3/
So did he know about the Vijayanagara empire, Marathas, I ask him.

"No, we don't have Vijayanagara. It was not important. Who is Maratha? Is Kittur Rani maratha?"

I told him, no it is Shivaji.

"Yes. We have learnt a little about Shivaji & his son Rajaram" 4/
And Sambhaji, the Peshwas, what about them?

"No uncle. We don't have anything about them"
5/
So if a kid about to enter his teens knows only about Mughals and thinks Akbar was the strongest of the lot, we have failed as a civilization.
