/ So here we go again: a woman's memory of sexual assault is called a "false memory". One push-back may be that Dr. Blasey Ford never forgot the assault and everyone knows "false memory" is about "recovered memory". But this is wrong too (continued).

/ It is wrong because memory accuracy and memory persistence are conceptually independent aspects of memory. Freyd, J. J. (1998). Science in the Memory Debate. Ethics & Behavior, 8 (2), 101-113. dynamic.uoregon.edu/jjf/articles/f… (continued)
/ Many sexual assault survivors do forget all or part of the trauma for some period of time. The forget in sense they cannot consciously recall. Memory can still be present in other senses such as learned fears and habits. (continued)

/ A crucial dimension of trauma experience is the degree of terror versus betrayal. The more terror, the more the core of the memory will be remembered all too well. The more betrayal trauma, the more the memory will be pushed out of awareness. (cont)

/ "False memory" is a term promulgated in the 1990s by parents defending against allegations of sexual abuse, joined by academics and the media. Memory accuracy varies but there is no evidence that memory accuracy is correlated with memory persistence.

/ Scholars have documented recovered memories of sexual assault

And explained the science behind them.

/ The thing is the claim of "false memory" has so often been intellectually dishonest. Yes there are real scientific issues about memory inaccuracy. But this is not news. The term was promulgated to discredit women and survivors. So no surprise we hear it again now. #DARVO.
and final/ Obviously Dr. Blasey Ford's testimony has nothing to do with the mythic use of the term "false memory" from the 90s. Nothing about her testimony is indicative of any kind of "false memory." This term now is about Denial and Attack. #DARVO

Did #3 get lost from thread? I will re-post.
