[1/n] Lots of #MeToo reports in India (about time!). Here are some things I’m keeping in mind while processing these allegations:
1) A lot of our heroes will fall from grace - accept it. Don’t get defensive on their behalf. And don’t pick and choose which allegations you want believe based on how much you like/admire the accused [2/n]
2) If I’m unsure about how to respond, I’m just going to keep quiet. In any case, as a man, it’s my turn to listen to and try to understand some of these lived experiences that have hitherto been unreported. [3/n]
3) There’s a whole spectrum of abuse/harassment. It's critical not to view all through the same lens, but equally important to view some behaviors on a continuum [4/n]
4) harassment & flirtation (/telling someone you have a crush on them) can both be creepy but one of them is a crime. Also no means no. [5/n]
5) Perhaps most importantly, some of these allegations might seem like they lack evidence and need to be substantiated. But don't kill the larger movement - the pendulum probably needs to swing in the other direction after centuries of abuse of power/privilege. [6/6] #MeToo
