Blockchain has potential but people often confuse the yo-yo between centralisation vs decentralisation of provision WITH centralisation vs decentralisation of power WITH evolution. Three separate concepts ...
... these ideas that applications will decentralise with blockhain and hence AMZN will lose power are dubious wishful thinking. More likely that AMZN cloud (e.g. Lambda / Greengrass) might decentralise over time in terms of provision with AMZN controlling the entire space.
This becomes possible because the systems are evolving in essence to an industrialised commodity.
I understand why people want to associate cloud (i.e. the shift of IT from product to utility) with centralisation (wrapping provision and power together) because it gives them a way to argue for a future where today might be bleak for their company ...
... but this is not strategy, it's special pleading. Personally, I view strategy works better if it focuses on reality rather than fantasy.
X : Your argument is that we should give up fighting with AMZN and accept they have won. Not going to happen.
Me : First, there is no need to fight. Second, AMZN can be outcompeted. Third, it's quite clear that most competitor execs aren't upto the job ...
... my argument is mostly for people to be honest with themselves. If you view blockchain will save you and bring down AMZN then return cash to shareholders because they'll appreciate that more than pie in the sky. You're living in lala land and out of your depth.
