1. The Founding Fathers were wary of mass immigration; they believed that homogeneity of values and customs, not diversity, was the key to our enduring prosperity. In Federalist 2, John Jay wrote, "With equal pleasure I have as often taken notice that Providence has been pleased
2. to give this one connected country to one united people--a people descended from the same ancestors, speaking the same language, professing the same religion, attached to the same principles of government, very similar in their manners and customs,..."
3. Alexander Hamilton, writting under the name of Lucius Crassus, in The Examination Number VIII wrote, "The safety of a republic depends essentially on the energy of a common National sentiment; on a uniformity of principles and habits; on the exemption of the citizens from
4. foreign bias, and predjudice; and on that love of country which will almost invariably be found to be closely connected with birth, education and family." He concludes the paper with, "To admit foreigners indiscriminately to the rights of citizens, the moment they put foot in
5. our country, as recommended in the Message, would be nothing less, than to admit the Grecian Horse into the Citadel of our Liberty and Sovereignty." You can find similar sentiments and concerns expressed by Washington, Jefferson, Madison, John Adams, and many other Founders.
6. This IS NOT about an immigrants skin color; that's irrelevant. What is essential is that immigrants assimilate into our American culture, and yes, there is an American culture. We all, Republicans and Democrats, used to understand what was meant by "the American way."
7. Both sides celebrated liberty and took pride in America. As a result, bipartisanship was common. All this has changed as the Democratic Party has gone farther and farther to the left. They chant "No USA at all" at demonstrations and wave foreign flags.
8. They chant, "No USA at all" and wave foreign flags in protest of American values. They disrespect the American flag and our anthem. Everything is in multiple languages. We have flexed to accomodate all cultures, and in doing so, we have eroded our own. We need to get it back.
9. Legal immigrants in the past would embrace America and learn English. They walked and talked like Americans for that is what they became. They believed in her liberty and the opportunity that came with it. They were Americans in heart before they earned their citizenship.
10. Legal immigrants weren't looking for handouts; they were pursuing the same dream that all Americans before them pursued, the American dream of self-determination, the ability to rise by their own ability, as high as their talents and determination allowed.
11. Today, we are inundated with illegals and those beholden to ideals, like Sharia Law, that are incompatible with American values. They do not seek to become Americans, to become part of our culture, but to retain the culture from whence they came while enjoying our bounty.
12. As Merle Haggard sang, "They love our milk and honey, but they preach about some other way of livin'." If anyone doubts the danger of allowing immigrants with incompatible values into a nation, they need only consider the fate of countries like the U.K., France, or Sweden.
13. We must ensure that those we allow into our great nation share her values, and that they will love her as did the Founding Fathers, those who built her, and all who have fought and died to defend her.
