In which Suzanne Moore claims the Leave vote wasn't about austerity, neoliberalism or xenophobia, but about something she strangely neglects to mention.

You can't berate Remainers for not understanding what drove the Leave vote without at least attempting to explain the drivers yourself.
Saying: "They don't understand, but I do," with no evidence that you do is bullshit of the highest order. Especially when you airily dismiss several key drivers that absolutely had a significant impact on the Leave vote.
She vaguely says: "Identity matters, belonging matters." Without further explanation. Probably because that further explanation would quickly lead to "there's too many immigrants".
Trying to pretend the Leave vote was some sort of wholesome rebellion is a crock of shit. Many voted Leave for horrible reasons. Many were duped. Many were using the wrong vehicle to lash out at how their economic situation had stagnated/ worsened, largely down to govt policy.
That doesn't absolve the Remain campaign being a disgrace (the refusal to allow personal attacks on the Conservatives leading Leave was a catastrophic error). Or that Remain voters were altruistic (many were very "I'm alright Jack").
Also, it's absolutely legit to say most Leave voters didn't understand the issues involved. Most Remain voters didn't. There are very few people who accurately understand (ie) the Customs Union, ECJ or Good Friday Agreement.

That's why there shouldn't have been a referendum.
