UNBELIEVABLE! This is Shirley, visiting a Wisconsin DMV office today with our Wisconsin Coordinator Anita Johnson. In her 56 years of life, Shirley has never had an ID. She is soft spoken and shy and limps when she walks. 1/x 
Volunteers with Souls to the Polls Milwaukee canvassed in Shirley's neighborhood and left our information about voter ID so she called us. She does not have a social security card nor a birth certificate. As she says with a wave of her hand "I don"t have none of that." 2/x
Anita took Shirley to the DMV today. The clerk told her because she didn't have S.S. card and birth certificate she could not get an ID. (This is wrong. WI DMV is required under multiple court orders to provide voters a FREE method of verifying their date and place of birth) 3/x
Anita politely asked the DMV clerk about the petition process for a free voter ID, and he said that the SPECIALIST CLERK was on break and would be back in 45 minutes. She took the petition form to help Shirley to fill out and said we will wait. 4/x
Since when does your fundamental right to vote depend on a SPECIALIST CLERK being on duty at the DMV office? Every clerk should be trained to understand and offer this option! 5/x
Eventually the clerk came back, very nice, did what she had to do and told Anita and Shirley that a State ID or a temporary DMV receipt would be mailed to Shirley's home so she can vote in the November 6th elections. We will be following up regularly to see what she gets. 6/x
Tweeps, if Anita had not been there to ask the clerk about the free ID Petition Process, Shirley would have been turned away without an ID and without the ability to vote. Multiple court orders have demanded that the Wisconsin DMV train their staff on this procedure. 7/x
