If you think the GOP was short sighted when they pushed forward their #GOPTaxScam you are mistaken and here is why....

At first glance, it's nice to have lower taxes. I mean who doesn't want to pay less.

However, lower taxes means less revenue from income taxes.

This also means the Federal debt increases.

Increasing the federal debt means that the government has to borrow more money to cover the bills.

I'll bet that you can guess who is lending the government money.

Mostly wealthy individuals and corporations (which, by the way, just got a massive tax cut).

As a result, more of your tax dollars are going to pay the debt and the interest on this debt.

Which, of course, is a more polite way of saying that you are paying for the rich to get richer.

Think about that for a moment, the GOP literally reduced taxes on themselves so that they could lend more to the federal government and further line their own wallets.

And this isn't some small amount...

Right now, the government is paying over $310 billion in interest on the debt.

That means that on average, each person in the US is paying $1,000 in interest.

Once you account for the fact that not everyone pays federal income taxes, that amount jumps to over $2,700 a year.

And that $2,700 (which is what is was last year) is increasing because we are getting further in debt and the interest rates are going up.

And the GOP's plan to "fix" this is to get rid of Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, and similar social safety nets.

Sure, doing so would decrease the total cost of the government...

But it also means that those safety nets that have been put in place to protect society will be removed...

Thus opening the door for profit focused individuals to sell you a half as good solution for twice the price (kinda like our current medical system).

The irony of the whole thing is that these safety nets were put in place because the greedy profit minded individuals got so greedy that they crashed the entire economy.

And now they want to remove those protections and allow for the economy to completely crash again...

And that, my friends, is truly why the #GOPTaxScam is a scam..

So please, don't let them fool you, don't let them think that you are better off because your take home pay might be $40 more a month.

Take a step back and look at the big picture, and the long term consequences of their intended actions.
