after looking through thousands of my saved screenshots from gab, i could only find 3 posts i'd saved from the synagogue shooter. that doesn't mean his posts weren't terrible -- on the contrary, it's because gab is so full of violent, hateful content that his did not stand out.
less than three weeks ago, the man who became a mass murderer today posted a comment about my body on a post made by a fascist who has been harassing and threatening me for nearly a year. four months ago he said i'm going to get "pussy canckmetWsFbsc
i am furious with myself for not seeing him for what he was when i first looked into him months ago. i am deeply unsettled that i spend so much time wading through content produced by these people and there's no way to tell which of them will become the next domestic terrorist.
which angry 4chan troll will be the one who leaves the house with a loaded gun? which one will pull the trigger? for every 100 posts about exterminating jews or killing trans people, how many will act?
is there any way to know?
i want to be very clear: this is not about me. this is about a crescendo of fascist, anti-semitic, transphobic, racist violence. this is about a fucking groundswell of support for this kind of violence that has always existed against marginalized people.
the time has passed for "both sides" rhetoric. the time has passed for free speech absolutism. the time has passed for "ignore them and they will go away."
they won't stop unless we make them stop.
