Srikakulam Temple diaries 2.

Today I will share the beauty of a Lord Shiva temple located in Jalumuru Mandal of Srikakulam.

It is the Someshwara temple.
Right now it is undergoing some restoration work by ASI.
Built in the 11th or 12th century AD by the Eastern Ganga dynasty kings, it has great sculptural beauty.

Entrance to the sanctum. Each pic you can enlarge to see its beauty.
This is Lakshmi Devi. The elephants on either side of her make her easily recognisable.
Notice the meditating Devas above her.
The first pic I do not know who it is, but loved the adoring looks by the sevikas. Is it Parvati Maa?

This must be Lord Shiva, with a gana praying with bhakti.
Lovely carvings. The beautiful design and the people beneath.
The top layers of the temple have simpler designs, while the first level is intricately carved.
Ganesha, in all his splendour. Don't miss the mooshika and the ganas beneath.
Beautiful frieze.
Lord Shiva with his ganas. Intricately carved.
Notice the bottom part. They look like outlets which are again well carved.
Beauty all around.
The 1st pic is of Lord Kartikeya, Son of Lord Shiva And Parvati Maa, with his mount - the peacock.

The second pic shows Lord Shiva persuading Parvati Maa.
The ganas looking at the divine couple with admiration.
Notice the 2nd last gana(2nd from left) in the second pic. So skeletal, how is it possible to carve so lifelike.
Adoration
Such beauty all around.
Shakti swaroopini.
Looking at this temple from afar, we can never guess the sculptural beauty it holds.

It is not too well known. Maybe that is the reason there is lesser damage.

My 🙏 to all the sculptors of this beautiful temple.
