THIS IS AN APPALLING ABUSE OF POWER. An election official running for office targets an opponent with an investigation. It undermines democracy and hurts confidence in the work done by professional election officials across the nation to run fair elections
I don't use capitals to shout often, but this is beyond the pale of what is acceptable in a well-functioning democracy. It needs to be condemned and condemned loudly.

It's not hard to imagine someone in the Georgia Democratic Party discovered the security hole, investigated it, notified people, and then had Kemp's office turn the discovery around on the person who found the vulnerability by accusing them of a cyber crime
And lest we forget, this is not the first time Georgia has had problems with their voter registration database. In 2017, 3 days after a lawsuit was filed alleging vulnerabilities, the vulnerable server was wiped clean slate.com/technology/201…
It's impossible to wish this, but I beg the media not to fall into the simple trap of reporting Kemp's allegation without reporting on the substance of the allegation and the vulnerabilities to Georgia's voter registration system he may be distracting from

The folks who broke this story have some more information. As I suspected, the "hack" came from a Georgia Democratic Party official who noticed the security vulnerability and alerted people to the problem
Lost in all this is that Georgia's voter registration database has a serious security issue that must be addressed. The media simply reporting Kemp's allegations of "hacking" is doing a grave disservice to the conduct of an imminent election
