In my analysis, I counted debunks about YourNewsWire + InfoWars from Facebook’s U.S. fact-checking partners over the past 19 months to see how effective they’ve been. I was still able to share several major hoaxes on Facebook without receiving a warning. Here’s why.
I then used BuzzSumo to measure how both YourNewsWire + InfoWars’ reach has been affected since Facebook launched its fact-checking product. I found that both are still getting massive engagement on Facebook infogram.com/yournewswire-v…

Today, I found out that some young people I know (ages 15 and 16) are in 'school' Whatsapp groups with teachers.

I salute the dedication of teachers who go beyond, but I think this a very dangerous breach of privacy / work-play balance, and must be stopped.

Here's why: #Thread
1) You cannot join a Whatsapp group without revealing your phone number. This is an immediate risk for minors - the room for abuse is so large I'm stunned that schools allow this. Pedophilia, sexual predation, grooming - all possible when adults have kids' phone numbers.
2) There is also risk of harassment by other kids. I remember my friends in high school (esp girls) who kept phone numbers very private, because they didn't want to be constantly bombarded.

When a teacher makes you join, there's no opt out. Everyone gets your phone number.

1/ Unlike Steele, Cody Shearer—a former journalist—doesn't have a background in espionage. Moreover, he's an avowed activist with known ties to the Clintons. For this reason, his research on Trump was originally viewed with skepticism by media and the FBI. Then something changed.
2/ As we consider the Shearer Memo, we must *avoid* the logic fallacy that Trump and Nunes would like us to fall into—what logicians call the "genetic fallacy." The genetic fallacy occurs when one bases conclusions solely on where information came from, not whether it's accurate.
