We know about the "leaky pipeline" for women in econ--but what can be done? My new article provides a toolkit of interventions for attracting & retaining women in economics at every stage (forthcoming in the JEP's symposium on women in econ). (1/4) www3.nd.edu/~kbuckles/Buck…
Where possible, I've focused on interventions that have been carefully evaluated. I also draw on research in other disciplines in which women are under-represented. The idea was to identify things that deans, chairs, teachers, mentors, colleagues, etc. can do. (2/4)
Some things that have been shown to work: mentoring, providing information to undergrads, exposure to role models, targeted nudges, and anti-bias training (which surprised me). (3/4)
Two stages of the "pipeline" are really important but have received less attention: K-12, and associate professors. I propose some evidence-based ideas about what might work there as well. Hope you find it useful! @AEAjournals (4/4)
