Here’s something to remember next time you hear “we simply can’t afford it.” thehill.com/policy/defense…
Imagine having a budget of $700 billion and blithely saying this.
Oh well my fuckin’ hero, then, never mind.
Actually my first question is “how is it possible that an entity with trillions in military assets has never been subject to audit?” and #2 is “how the hell is an audit OPTIONAL?” and #3 is how quickly can we curb insane unaccountable military spending?”
People who consider a couple million to find a school breakfast program theft and tell you we can’t afford to educate all our young and care for all our sick are full of it.

We can afford whatever we want.

And we do afford whatever we want.

We should look at what we want.
Right now we want war and war and war.

How do I know? Because that’s what we’re buying.

Oh we’re going to spend $800 billion a year and weapons of war and then NOT go to war?

The US government is a war junkie.
That first World War II high made us feel like we were the heroes of the world.

Now our bridges and roads are falling apart, and our teachers have third jobs, and we’re selling the car for another hit.
We can afford whatever we want. The people say we can’t afford something just don’t want it.

For anyone who brings up that excuse, the proper response is to immediately catapult them into a giant vat of vanilla pudding.
How about we make the auditing easier? Let’s cut military spending by 90%. As a start.

We may not be able anymore to deploy troops to Texas to string concertina wire and make white voters scared of faraway brown people; we’ll have to cross that bridge once we’ve funded it.
