Data on “privileges” of various communities in India:

Per capita income of various communities as stated by the Karnataka finance minister in the state assembly:
Christians ₹1,562,
Vokkaligas ₹914,
Muslims ₹794,
Scheduled castes ₹680,
Scheduled Tribes ₹577,
Brahmins ₹537.
It is appalling how the western press reported the Antibrahminism Twitter incident. Most reported that Brahmins are an “upper caste” with privileges. In reality, they are a tiny % of people who own very little land or property. This poverty has always been so and was intentional.
But the reason why such misrepresentation persists in the western media is because of India’s own media, which continues to scapegoat Brahmins for every random crime or socio-political inequality.

How long do Brahmins, a tiny % of population, have to bear being scapegoats?
Just like Antisemitism in Europe, the causes for Antibrahminism are historical and theological: a tiny minority of people refusing to tow the line of an occupying religion.

It is a shame that such discourse persists after 70 years of Indian independence.
