There is such a resistance among Christians to embracing the part of Jesus’ humanity that meant he made mistakes (how else does a toddler learn language?), changed his mind (how else does one “grow in wisdom”), and learned from other people (Mary was chosen for a reason)....
...Perhaps it is discomfort with the idea of a vulnerable God, or the tendency to conflate sinlessness with perfection. Or maybe we like a Jesus who is so other, so unrelatable, we get to let ourselves off the hook when it comes to trying to be like him...
... And for the 100th time, I’m not saying Jesus sinnned. I’m saying the point of his sinlessness is not simply to be a spotless offering on our behalf but to show us the way - to show us how to be angry, compassionate, biased, culturally situated, etc. and still faithful.
