I followed up on this case the moment the news broke. It saddened me that we lost two souls needlessly to a queer and almost unexplainable situation. While on the surface we can place judgements based on the anecdotal narratives being proliferated, the issues are deeper.
The officers involved are men of Service at both ends. One is a dedicated father and officer of LASTMA and likewise the other. The one we would like to name a villain especially because of the obvious, he is attached to the indicted SARS and he fired the shot...
...in sane climes, a proper digging ought to be done into the culprit/suspect here. This is not because we can bring back the dead but because we need closure across board and must ensure that this never happens again. Here are my concerns on a personal note for findings...
Firstly, the society have gotten to a tipping point where cases against the police in the society raises issues on trust. Police have proven to be a bad judge in their own case. We have also heard too many stories about people dying in custody etc.
This by the ways shouldn’t justify taking laws into our hands with jungle justice. We are Humans first and share humanity. The criminal Justice System if understood and monitored can bring about Justice. We just have to give them a benefit of the doubt and follow up.
Secondly, looking into the conduct and character of the Inspector (name withheld) especially from 2012 till the time of the incident, he was known by all in Service and even in his family as an introvert, easy going and mostly quiet. 🤔
Suffice to say he was more of an introvert. People who listen more than they talk, think before they speak, and often feel as if they express themselves better in writing than in conversation with a natural dislike for conflict. Terrified by small talks but enjoys deep dialogues.
This was a fellow who ranks in the class of collectors of thoughts and solitude. What could have triggered such a violent act one may ask? He wasn’t known to be easily aggravated neither does he smoke or abuse substances as would be corroborated from direct boss.
Autopsy report will show more behind the lynching by the mob. There are allegation that he was shot as well but his Service pistols/rifle was found at the scene. Now ask yourself how a man armed with 89 rounds of ammunition can be subdued immediately by an unarmed mob? 🤔😞
These were good men we lost from both institutions and I believe it is necessary to conduct a deeper investigation into what may have transpired to avoid a repeat. So for those thinking this is a ruse, the shooter is deceased as reported by Distinguished ACP @YomiShogunle
We recommend that the NOKs of both officers are united and shown the corpses of the officers for closure at the appropriate time. We pray that their gentle souls rest in perfect peace and that a means of succor extended to both families. #RIP #WeAreSociety
