I do believe that we have a man sitting on the sidelines right now that knows EXACTLY how to win in Afghanistan. Paging @GenFlynn .... Let's dig in. dailycaller.com/2018/11/30/tru…
2) The war in Afghanistan was an afterthought to our gov't, and left in the hands of ally leaders until 2009, when the tide had turned in Iraq & General Stan McChrystal took command in Afghanistan. There had been no plan, no groundwork laid, and the soldiers were 'undisciplined'.
3) The International 'leadership' who had been in command, were inept at best. Many would argue that their actions caused more harm than if nothing had been done.
4) The Muslim people are deeply religious and disdained the soldiers throwing drinking parties into all hours of the night. So one of the first actions of Gen. McChrystal was to shut down the alcohol serving bar inside the ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) compound.
5) The forces that were participating in these activities, made the common Muslim unable to take the declared actions of the ISAF seriously. The common Muslims HATE the extremists- BUT they cannot side against them without assured victory.
6) They would not side with a force that a. Had been viewed as occupiers of their land- the Koran forbade it and b. That provided no guarantee of victory. The common Muslims have to make sure that they are on the side that wins, or face death from the Taliban.
7) So, General McChrystal and @GenFlynn set out to reshape the battlefield in Afghanistan and repair the relationships that had been broken with the local tribal leaders. This is what the counterinsurgency plan is all about.
8) In order to have victory in a land like Afghanistan, your intel MUST be outstanding. The only way to have outstanding intel is to develop REAL relationships with the tribal leaders. That is what McChrystal and Flynn did upon arrival in 2009.
9) They toured the villages, and met face to face with the leaders. Through developing these relationships, they were able to make REAL bonds. They had to gain trust within these local leaders in order to gain intel on the Taliban. This takes time.
10) They had to make sure that every common Muslim, knew that we were serious about winning and the we were NOT there as occupiers- but as liberators. These two points are tremendously important to the non-extremists.
11) So that was the McChrystal/Flynn counterinsurgency plan in Afghanistan. It was working well until..... June 23rd 2010. That is when General McChrystal was forced out by the Obama regime over hearsay comments that were published in a Rolling Stone article.
12) From that point, the strategy in Afghanistan was changed and the counterinsurgency strategy of McChrystal/Flynn was derailed. Many of the leaders in Afghanistan at the time were HIGHLY distraught over the removal of General McChrystal- For good reason.
13) So we all know now that the Obama regime had little inclination to effect real change in Afghanistan and did very little to support our military as a whole.
14) @GenFlynn, thank you for writing "Field of Fight". Incredible insight to the reality of how to win against radical islamic terrorism. Can you PLEASE write your own opinion piece and drop it to the @DailyCaller so we can get your take on what @LawrenceSellin has said.
