Networks inevitably involve trade offs, especially if they are wireless. Other handset makers will gain an advantage over Apple by selling mobile handsets in 2019 that can access networks that use radio frequencies above 6 GHz? Seriously? 👀
"By 2020, 5G is expected to be widely available in the US" engadget.com/amp/2018/12/03… If only the future was just as press releases promise.
The capital required to create the 5G footprint that would make it widely available in 2020 is coming from the tooth fairy apparently. The density of basestations and backhaul) required is like no network deployment ever done before in wireless.
Predicting the past is vastly easier than predicting the future. venturebeat.com/2018/12/03/gar… Does a handset that does not operate above 6GHz count as a 5G phone? Below 6Ghz is not the hard part about 5G because: the laws of physics are not just guidelines.
Physics gonna physics. "given the range and interference issues, the carriers are starting to explore lower-frequency spectrum -- the type used in today's networks -- to help ferry 5G across greater distances and through walls and other obstructions." cnet.com/google-amp/new…
