I have a little programming announcement...
There's an old saying, "Do it for the culture" - which can mean a lot of different things, but boils down to caring about and respecting the culture and a broad range of cultural contributions.

Trump’s project always required creating his “own reality” —

Trump U. is a ‘great business’ (until it goes bankrupt);

Trump Admin will ‘make’ Mexico fund the wall (until it won’t & the US gov shuts down over it);

Trump will give his supporters ‘the news’ instead of the news..
This approach can shape public opinion in the short run, but that “propaganda effect” feeds bubbles which can eventually pop. Some things are easier to lie about than others...
So even one argues Trump has “gotten away” with more lies than a typical POTUS — sanctioned less by the political system, paying less of a price with his base (while Bush was pummeled for 1 lie about new taxes) — consider the two areas where Trump is facing swift backlash...

New: Federal prosecutors in NY unimpressed with Cohen’s DMX defense, they recommend a “substantial” term of about four years in jail.
Breaking in NY prosecutors new filing:

“Michael Cohen’s decision to plead guilty rather than seek a pardon for his manifold crimes does not make him a hero.”

They ask the judge to imprison him for about 4 years.
NY prosecutors: Cohen’s campaign crimes for Trump “struck a blow to one of the core goals of the federal campaign finance laws: transparency.”

All the bad things about the Internet—I don't think they come from people being free to communicate with one another. I think they come from the advertising revenue model.
Incentives matter. In the long run, they may be the only thing that matters. It's taken 20 years since the advertising model swept the Internet.
What are the incentives baked into the advertising model? Seems to me that all of the worst problems that we attribute to "the Internet" are traceable precisely to those incentives.

1/ Someone emailed me asking how to break into VC, so I wanted to answer on Twitter where others could see and contribute to the conversation.
2/ “Being a VC” can mean a lot of different things, so it’s worth asking:

What actual activities do you want to do?

- Deep market analysis?
- Be in the flow of information and people?
- Make deals?
- Work closely w/ founders over time (e.g take board seats?)
- Manage capital?
3/ It’s worth specifying what type of VC you might like to become — as there are different archetypes. E.g.

- Benchmark (Lead series A/B - couple investments a year)
- First Round (Lead seed rounds, partner w/ a few companies a year)
- SV Angel (Make lots of seed investments)

What would it mean to women if Abortion & Birth Control are outlawed? It would mean a lot of different things. Other issues must be addressed to not just outlaw these items but also put them completely out of reach of women. Physical access- is denied & knowledge must be buried

This was not a good time to be a woman in American history. Women were kept ignorant of their bodies & reproductive cycles by law back then.
In order for Abortion & Birth Control to be truly out of reach for women- then several other things have to happen.
1. Information must be disrupted 2. Whatever info remains must be challenged with disinformation (read alternative facts-propaganda)
3. Women must lose 1A, & 4A

Ryan starts out with saying that whites aren't politically all that exceptional. He says this because people in Europe don't support freedom of speech as much as people in America. Yes, his argument really is this stupid.

"I have been called racial slurs many times since I moved to US. I was once even punched in the face because I am a “f-cking foreigner.” But as traumatizing as such incidents may be to non-black racial minorities, itss grotesque to compare them to what happened to black people."
I think @PrajCK makes a key point, one I've been trying to make but failing.

If we are going to have a double standard on race..fine. But the double standard really needs to be: African Americans...and everyone else.

Others face prejudice...but its simply not the same.

So I graduated officially in December of 2017 but I left UT Knoxville in August of that year. I had been applying for jobs months prior.
Hadn’t been hearing anything. So I moved to Atlanta with my girlfriend at the time.l and just continued to look for jobs.

The first couple weeks I just needed to rest.

I had been nonstop at work for 3-4 months straight prior because I was being forced to graduate in summer.
