One element of being older is watching younger confront that life -be it work/marriage/parenting/vocation/ministry/calling/humanity- is not what they thought it would be. I’m never unmoved by it. Reckoning with unmet expectation is no small rite of passage. Often existential.->
Jesus will not turn out like you thought either. Even if what you were taught was right, He still will not fit human constructs. There’s no catching the eternal in a jar like a firefly. Jesus will turn out so much more gracious, merciful, patient AND mysterious than you thought.
Jesus will come through in ways you could never have dreamed, the kinds of ways that leave you saying “You can’t make this stuff up!” Other times when you’re absolutely certain you’ll see Him manifest His power or presence in a dramatic way, the stage seems bare & heaven silent.
Neither is true. It’s just that the curtain is drawn & the sound of heaven muted. For now we see as in a mirror darkly but one day we will see face to face. And every expectation we ever had will be blown to oblivion & before us will stand His Majesty, the Immortal Inexpressible.
