“Everyone has a religion, if I define that term so broadly as to render it meaningless...”
It’s true, of course, that some nominally secular folks adhere to totalizing non-supernatural ideologies that play much the same role as religion—Marxism or Objectivism or whatever. But... lots don’t.
If the response is “well, whatever practices give their lives meaning and purpose are their religion, even if it’s not some overarching doctrine,” you’ve diluted the term to the point of uselessness. “Yes, I’m a raising-my-kids-writing-a-novel-soup-kitchen-volunteerist.”
