best of 2016 @visakanv tweets, the thread
1. still waiting for an app or site that does this really well. it doesn't make sense to me that idle time waiting in queues, etc can't be better spent pruning and updating tasks more intuitively and obviously than currently possible
2. my answer to "what should twitter do next" in 2016 turned out to be exactly what they did, nice. in 2018 I would like to say, please make bigger and better inroads into the harassment and abuse problem(s)
3. still waiting. basically something that takes a conversation that you have with someone and makes it super easy for you to turn it into a shared doc or a blogpost without all the tedium. Actually I've started doing this manually with some chats
4. ever since I observed this phenomenon I'm realizing it's a very persistent problem, a trap that's very easy to fall into. there's an interesting paradox(?) where we're *impulsive* + yet living mostly either in an imagined past or future rather than now
5. I forgot that it ever occurred to me to frame it this way, but it's true! (meta: it's worth writing down thoughts because sometimes you have unusually good hits that you can't reliably/consistently get – but being able to re-reference them is powerful)
6. one of my "the emperor is naked" thoughts is that SG doesn't have a censorship problem, it has an idiot problem. I used to criticize the government all the time and never got in trouble for it. You mostly just gotta avoid baseless accusations
7. I think I'm basically here already! Congrats Visa-26, we did it
9. this is one of the simplest and best editing tools in my arsenal – literally just take the stronger word, phrase or sentence and put the emphasis on that instead of whatever filler you were using
10. I think I've gotten a lot better at this in the past 2 years
11. and then you effectively "translate" it into your own natural language, into something that speaks to you and resonates with your life experience
12. "a wolf in bro's clothing" is the kind of lovely phrase that I can never come up with intentionally; only accidentally in conversation or while pursuing something else. it's funny how much of writing is just... noticing what's good
13. I'd forgotten about this thread and I am heartened to see it again
14. I have gotten significantly better at this – I think I'm about 60% satisfied now (and was about 10-20% satisfied then)
19. learning of the existence of tremendous hatred
20. evergreen concern of a frustrated idealist
