This is a cassette I purchased in the UK in 1999. It features Father Christmas saying my name, telling me that when he came into my room last night, I was "fast asleep." He then asks if I was "excited."

Please come to my XMAS show w/ @Mikeyerg Wednesday @ucbtny Hell's Kitchen!
• The way Santa cues the elves to transition instantly to "Jingle Bells"
• His mirthless laugh
• The way he bellows "C'mon!"
• His vocal entrance on the LAST word of the song: "...SLEIGH"
• The elves are absolute professionals, Santa is barely holding it together
The b-side of this cassette does not mention me by name in the songs, but it does feature XMAS songs I have never heard of before. "Santa's Castle" tells us, for instance, that Santa *has* a castle, something I was previously unaware of.

The wish for XMAS more often is familiar; less so the idea that Santa could "go away"
The singers wish you a Merry Christmas "in every special way" which makes me wonder how many ways are special and which ways do not qualify as special and why.

This cassette tape is a treasure.

R.I.P. Bob Einstein

This is probably my favorite scene in my favorite film of all time, Modern Romance. I remember the first time I saw it, realizing that it was Super Dave Osborne (whom I knew from his great deadpan talk show appearances) & later realizing he was AB's brother
Einstein had maybe the single best deadpan of any late night guest, better even than Grodin at his peak maybe! His bits were always great but my favorite parts were always when the audience would laugh and he would stop and glare at them, or at Dave.
It's just tremendous the way he times those reactions, feeding off Dave's timing and the energy of the audience...

Honestly, I think all the headlines about Holmes & Watson being the worst comedy of the year are going to end up making it a film that people discover later on & are pleasantly surprised that it isn't the worst movie they've ever seen. It is a C- comedy that is getting F- grades
I think all the articles about audiences walking out and it being so bad that even Netflix wouldn't save it give a false impression of it. I also think that critics are always angrier when a movie isn't screened (esp. if it means they all had to spend XMAS day watching it)
This is perhaps an uncool opinion but although the movie is a mixed bag and suffers in comparison to the previous to Ferrell/Reilly pairings, I don't get a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes feeling from this movie. (I guess it's up to 7% now, but still.)

Now that the holiday season is upon us, I think it's time to reflect on an interesting Jewish custom called Nittel Nacht. What is Nittel Nacht, you ask? It's basically a Jewish Christmas celebration. WHAAAAAA
So, in the 16th/17th century, Nittel Nacht was a Jewish celebration that took place on Christmas Eve. You threw huge loud parties, played chess & card games, and enjoyed food and drink. Pretty typical holiday party, really.
But there were also a few rather odder Nittel Nacht traditions. Like, you weren't allowed to study Torah on Nittel Nacht. Or have sex. Oh, and everyone ate loads and loads of garlic.

Day three of Brett Kavanaugh's #SCOTUS confirmation hearing is set to begin in about 15 minutes. Meanwhile, protesters have taken over Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Chuck Grassley's office
Here's Kavanaugh coming in. Grassely has gaveled in to start the hearing, and begins by addressing the controversy over the public release of confidential documents, saying Dems "only have themselves to blame if they didn't get the documents they wanted"
Grassley said that in order to accomodate last-minute requests to release committee confidential documents, they're working with the Justice Dept. to get those out. Grassley says that before the day is over, members will have the docs they want to ask Qs

Yoongi’s helping Jimin, his best friend since childhood, move out of his family home and into their new shared apartment.

While moving boxes, he accidentally finds a dairy — in which 12 year old Jimin writes about how desperately in love he is with Yoongi.
“Hyung, do you think the carpet would fit if we leave the trunk door open?” Jimin asked, shoving a box of his Harry Potter collection under the back seat. He hit the back of his head against the top of the car and whined, rubbing the painful spot as he turned to Yoongi.
“We already have a carpet, Jimin.” Yoongi sighed, walking back inside the house to get more boxes from Jimin’s room. He was getting impatient with Jimin’s ridiculous requests and demands. His car was almost full already, and they haven’t even gone through half of Jimin’s things.

There’s some sort of chaos outbreak at HQ, and before he knows it, Taehyung--an untrained, unpaid, unsure intern--is swept into a slick black SUV and sent off to an unknown location.
He looks around, not very optimistic at the sight of the other nervous faces in the car. When the vehicle finally stops, the doors are pulled open by a very gruff-looking man, his face streaked with blood and his arm in a rough-looking sling.
