Nigeria’s creation of a renewable energy department is “really a major shift,” said Ina Hommers, head of GIZ’s Nigerian Energy Support Program. “It’s going to make Nigeria more independent from other costly energy resources. And it creates additional jobs ‘cos it’s a new sector.”
