This has to be one of the most tragic charts in recent economic history.

Zimbabwe was nearly 50% richer than India in 1990.
Today India is 3.5 times richer than Zimbabwe

And it's not just ZImbabwe...Let's consider Rwanda and Burundi - two countries only1-2 notches poorer than India in 1990. Where are they placd now? Here you go -
Let's take Tanzania, and Kenya next...

As you can see below, Kenya was a good 30-40% richer than India in 1990. India is well over twice as rich today
Let's move on to Chad, Central African Republic, Uganda...countries only a notch poorer than India in 1990....they are not even in the same planet today
Let's next look at Zambia - one of the relative success stories in Africa. Yet, it is barely half as rich as India today. Despite being significantly richer than India in 1990
Let's move to Nigeria - Africas biggest economy. And by no means a story of failure. Actually one of the stars of Africa.

Even the richest countries in Africa in PCI terms have been major disappointments over the past 3 decades...

South Africa was nearly 6 times richer than India in 1990. Egypt 3.5 times richer. Today they are less than twice as rich

Two more countries from West Africa....Ivory Coast and Mauritania...both richer than India in 1990

The "Progressive" conceit in matters of religion is often annoying

Did the makers of modern India provide "proper philosophical explanations" to justify their choice of "universal adult franchise", or "westminster-like parliamentary system" when they wrote the Constitution?

No
Eg - Why did we not opt for a phased transition to universal franchise?

Why did we not consider an upper house similar to the American Senate with direct elections?

Why did we end up with a sinecure "President" as head of state?
I don't have good answers to these questions, and don't have strong opinions either way

Maybe the right choices were indeed made

But the point is - the debates really did not happen on these crucial issues, nor was the process of ratification as democratic as it could have been

Videos like these are incredibly precious pieces of cricket history, and also very useful as pedagogical tools

These are not highlights, but ball-by-ball recordings from the distant past

Much to learn and observe here - one of Sachin's finest ODI knocks

Highlights tend to focus on the boundaries and sixes, and the odd sensational delivery and ofcourse the dismissals

In the process they don't reveal the messiness of the past, but merely romanticize it
For eg - We have this almost mythical notion of Sachin Tendulkar smashing Shane Warne all over the park and dominating him in India

While that is in part true, watching ball-by-ball recordings reveals a more nuanced picture

Before I start on the places, the history around all this is fascinating & splits opinion. Is it apt to call the script Tamili/Tamil Brahmi? Did it develop independently in the Tamil country/come with the Jain monks from the north? Were 8,000 Jains actually impaled in Madurai?>

Let’s look at some interesting numbers. CO2 metric tons per capita: 1992 13.98 1998 10.127 (makes sense since the economy was collapsing 2014 11.58 So, CO2 emissions have been reduced What about GDP? That’s a good measure of a country’s economy.

A tariff is applied only when the import price drops below €26.40. On that it's 50 euro cents!
