This messaging - let's describe it as the "third way unicorn" - comes from a very particular place in the Remain campaign. And its important to recognise it for a number of reasons. 
Some from the political past see a Referendum as a chance to put themselves at the forefront of political relevance again. But their presence is toxic to many who we might want to support a campaign to stay in the EU.
It's also right to say that Mandelson - who along with Blair is closely involved with People's Vote - was a key player in the failed 'Stronger In' campaign that led to the vote in June 2016. It's important that they not run any new campaign.
I know I will be criticised for saying this now. But there is no good moment to raise these points and they do need to be raised, and clearly. A repeat of the 2016 campaign does not maximise the chances of a different result.
