Maybe it's time to call out ASUU and ask ourselves if the union is actually for the greater good of the university system. ASUU is demanding for the payment of 1.3trn Naira agreement made in 2009 with the FG. Previous govt could not implement it, GEJ said it was ridiculous..

👇
And difficult to implement. Where will the money come from? How much is the total budget on Education that ASUU wants appropriate 40% of it to itself.

We have 13m kids out of school, we UBEC and primary schools to worry about, we have Unity schools, polytechnics, Co' Eds
Bulk of the recurrent expenditure on our education Budget goes to salaries and ASUU is inclusive.

How will other tiers of education be funded from the Budget. Are we going to allow our primary schools, Unity schools, polytechnics, colleges of Education die because of ASUU?
GEJ got fed up with their politics, he was desperately looking for ways to tame them because there was no moral justification for them to embark on that 6 months strike action.

Quality education is not cheap. If ASUU is agitating for increased funding which is genuine, looking at our budget and economic realities, they are indirectly telling the FG to raise tuition fees. Hike in tuition without an educational loan system will be too harsh on students.
Another demand is the exemption from TSA.."The exemption offered by the government regarding the issue of TSA, which included the issue of grants, endowment funds as well as salary shortfall, which is already being implemented by the government".
FG pays ASUU's salaries, FG owns the Universities but ASUU wants to manage endowment fund and grants without Audit and interference from the owner of the institution. ASUU is holding on to the yam and the knife..
The FG is committed to improving infrastructure in the Universities. Power, road and educational facilities. The main question we need to ask ASUU is, what is the reason for this strike action?

Asides IPPs to be constructed in 37 universities, in roads are also under construction.
"Twitter intellectuals" screaming EndASUUstrike have not been able to tell us how tertiary education should be funded.

We have a tuition free system in federal universities bankrolled by the FG, Universities generate IGR, they cannot attract grants, they can't pay salaries.
Quality education is not cheap, FG should Introduce educational loans which students will pay back once they become gainfully employed.

FG should hands off Federal universities, universities should be allowed at some point to renegotiate their fees.
Funding tertiary education is a global issue. We also need to fund primary education and vocational education for those who will not proceed to the university. That to me is more important.
The future generation is struggling to get primary education, 13m kids out of school..those who cannot afford university education are roaming the streets with no form of Vocational education. People who may become willing tools for terrorists, robbers and kidnappers..
