1982 Captive Nations Week commemoration of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA)'s "40th anniversary" in the oldest US congressional office building ft. @UkrCongComAm leader & Cold Warrior Lev Dobriansky, @KatyaYushchenko, ret Maj Gen John Singlaub & NY Dem congressman Sam Stratton.
Guests were 1st welcomed by Dr Dobriansky, US-born Ukrainian American radical right free-market economist & Cold Warrior; longtime RNC operative & leader of the UCCA & Captive Nations mvmt in US; sympathizer and collaborator of OUN-B, ABN & WACL; inventor of Captive Nations Week.
Dobriansky's mentee @KatyaYushchenko (Katherine Chumachenko) led attendees in saying the Pledge of Allegiance. She prob helped bring Stetsko to the WH in 1983. In 2004 she became Ukraine's First Lady, and may well have encouraged her husband to declare Bandera a Hero of Ukraine.
John Singlaub was likely a war criminal himself as former commander of the joint unconventional warfare task force in Vietnam, and implicated the World Anti-Communist League in the Iran-Contra scandal. He believed the UPA "inflicted heavy casualties on the Nazi armed forces."
Yaroslav Stetsko led an "International Jubilee Committee" in 1982 to celebrate the UPA that included Azov's @Dienekes19, Senator Barry Goldwater, former DIA director Gen. Daniel O Graham, former SAC com-in-chief Gen. Bruce K Holloway, Singlaub, Dobriansky, and Otto von Habsburg.
Sep. 1982, NY Senator Chuck Schumer's Republican predecessor Alfonse D'Amato proposed to designate 10/14 "Ukrainian Insurgent Army Day," a few months after he took up the cause of declaring 6/30 "Ukrainian Independence Day." UPA's flag allegedly flew over the capitol that summer.
A year after Oliver North's man John K. Singlaub visited Stetsko's Munich HQ and keynoted the UPA's "40th anniversary" on Capitol Hill, CIA Director turned Vice President George HW Bush signed a photo of himself with the "Honorable Yaroslav Stetsko" in Washington DC (1983).
At the 1st WH Captive Nations Week signing ceremony since Dobriansky's law went into effect, with Mr & Mrs Stetsko sitting front and center, Reagan gave a speech in July 1983 leading up to a denouncement of Nicaragua. Bush did much the same at 25th CNW/40th ABN anniversary event.
Yaroslav Stetsko, John Singlaub, Vice President Bush, and UN Ambassador Jeane Kirkpatrick highlighted a special Washington DC conference commemorating the 25th annual Captive Nations Week and the ABN's "40th anniversary" on July 18, 1983.
5 years after he met Stetsko, GHWB's '88 prez campaign suffered a minor scandal when "Ukrainians for Bush" turned out to be run by OUN-B operatives (s/o Russ Bellant). After the Cold War ended, a wary POTUS lectured the Soviet Ukrainian parliament on "suicidal nationalism."
Bandera once said: "The measure of our idea is not that we were prepared to sacrifice our lives, but that we were prepared to sacrifice the lives of others." Stetsko, May 1981 in NYC: "The essence of the matter is not in the tragic element of dying for an idea, but rather in ..."
"...the element of human greatness manifested by [one's] death, by this manifested apogee of heroism!" That yr on Capitol Hill, Stetsko keynoted the 40th anniversary observance of his 6/30/1941 "declaration of renewed statehood," the eve of the July 1941 pogroms in Galicia.
