I have known Amina Zakari for 15 years. In 2015, she had concluded plans and was avoiding all official and calls from the Villa, thinking they were trying to persuade her to do another term. She didn’t know that President Buhari wanted to appoint her Acting INEC Chairman...1/2
I had to abuse our friendship by calling her with my phone to meet me somewhere. That’s where we delivered the appointment letter to her. I’ll tell the full story one day. That day is not today. Suffice it to say that she is intelligent, hardworking, professional and honest. End.

Between 2005 and 2006, government disengaged some public servants. There were various reasons. Some had had their posts abolished, like cooks and “nightwatchmen” attached to senior govt officials. The Monetisation Policy consolidated salaries and therefore made them redundant.
Others had disciplinary issues and should have since been sacked. Yet others had failed promotion exams more than three times. Finally, people who wanted to leave the service were given a monetary incentive to go. My Mum took advantage of this offer. Everybody was paid off.

The quest for uniformity and sharing is killing our university system. There SHOULD BE elitism at university level. Harvard is not the same as Shaw University. Their admission processes are not the same. Their fees are not the same. Their faculty don’t go on strikes annually.
We should have a few elite universities that can start to aim for the top 500 of universities worldwide. This is a position that has been canvassed by erudite scholar Prof Ladipo Adamolekun, my academic mentor. Those elite universities should get more funding & charge higher fees

Sometime in 2015, when I was the DG of @bpsr_ng, I got an innocuous Freedom of Information request from a group called the Independent Service Delivery Monitoring Group @isdmg. Their request was simple: tell us what you did for the money you got in 2014.
We responded and they invited us to an event and gave us a plaque to encourage us. That was when I first met the convener of the group @AMADICHIMA. Other agencies too were there. Everybody took it quite seriously and we’re proud of what they had achieved the previous year.

First of all Amina Zakari issue is not a gender issue though many are always ready to whip up the gender card. If you are female and you demand accountability from a female you are told you are trying to bring a fellow female down.

It's paramount to state that @inecnigeria by law should be an independent commission, it's required of them to be unbiased in their dealings but recent activities of the body under the chairmanship of Prof Mahmood Yakubu suggests otherwise.

@inecnigeria has been compromised
There have been "accumulated indications" that Prof Mahmood is in connivance with the @OfficialPDPNig to discredit the commission's dignitary with his political relationship with the forefront opponents of Buhari's administration.

What do we know about Mahmood?
Mahmood was appointed to office in 2007 by then-President Musa Yar'Adua, as the executive secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, [TETFUND] & later served as the Assistant Secretary of Finance & Administration at the 2014 National Conference.

I've been thinking about #PlanS a lot since the announcement. I've been reflecting on my experience with the foundation's policy implementation. Random thoughts:

I agree & think that there is enough funder experience in #openaccess policy implementation to successfully implement this. While it's important to critically review each new policy development the community that wants to see change really needs to support any effort to change
It can be scary being first in something - however it can also reaffirm that need for change. So far I haven't seen many examples of open access being a detriment to research. For PlanS this isn't a single entity, but an entire coalition, which is quite impressive.
