Following people on Twitter or looking up to people need not make you a stooge or slave. It need not be blind following which is mostly harmful and destructive mentally. I am talking about what the Arabs call “Taqlid” (shadowing, imitation or following/apprenticeship).
The sages call this the approach of a hungry student (ignorant man) to a wise counsel or of a layman to an expert, teacher to student. This is the basis of life and the core of an integrated society, where each one reach one, where everyone takes care of their Neighbour.
A sick man goes to a doctor, one who wants something to be done goes to the relevant workman and they accept what the expert says. Our society is derelict because of the proliferation of phonies. Where the sick goes to the cause of their ailment for cure.
A society where oppressors are stampeded to Power and the people to whom Power belongs are too indolent to correct the wrongs or hold them to account because of the wants of the now. Blind following is a disease that teaches nothing but sorrow, tears and blood.
