The debate about campus speech is a lot easier to understand when you get that it is mostly driven by people who care neither about campus or speech, but instead dislike universities because they assume they foster liberal thought. And its not just the US.

Grover Norquist knows how marginal tax rates works. He and his organization has done more to shape our current tax system than perhaps anyone else.

Jazmine Headley went to a welfare office to get childcare vouchers so she could take a cleaning job. With no available chairs, she sat on the floor with her 1yr old. She was told to stand, refused. Then police came, yanked child away & arrested her. 1/ nytimes.com/2018/12/09/nyr…
Eyewitnesses said she was not blocking any entry way, but she is charged with obstruction. She is charged with endangering her child, even though it was the security officials and police who directly put the child in danger 2/

Vos’s main justification for stripping powers from Evers is that Evers hinted he might drop the Medicaid work requirement Scott Walker introduced and *did not campaign on it.*
So Vos is saying, if you didn't campaign on a policy, you shouldn't adopt it. 2/
The Medicaid work requirement is a big deal. Should have been more of a campaign issue. Vos is right there. However, Walker also did not want to talk much about it. He even pushed CMS to wait until after the election to approve the waiver. 3/

UNPOPULAR OPINION: Just because a book has a lot of girl protagonists, doesn't mean it's feminist.

mostly re: fantasy, I feel like feminist has become a marketing tool instead of a true descriptor. SO MANY of these feminist-labeled books don't work towards equality 1/?
for all the people.

And i'm not even talking about it being white feminism. It's just that so many fantasy novels these days are lauded as "fierce feminist fantasies," yet in these books, it's JUST the protagonists who get to lead a somewhat less-oppressed life. 2/?
It may feature a whole bunch of women (& yes, it's really great we're getting stories about girls from female authors), but JUST a girl gang =/= feminist.

@DonteEstate Pt1) Hi Donte and Thank You for your follow. I know you're new yet would like to encourage you to scale back on the massive follows. Many won't followbk when we don't honor twitter's 10%-Max-Ratio-Rule. Past 5k we can't follow more than 10% over total# following us.
@DonteEstate Pt2) Of course when we are new it makes sense 2 be outta whack on that at 1st. But even twitter's alg will start to harm us for doing it. Many follow a 1000 over until 1500 follow us. The exact Ratio Rule is: if U follow 100, then 91 must follow U, or twtr-alg harms.

One advice writer's give that we consistently explain poorly is "make every character have a unique voice."

The way we refuse to go too in-depth with it often makes it sound like characters should either be Regular, Cowboy or Yoda.

So, here, a small guide on writing voices.
#1 rhythm.

Possibly the hardest to define, every person and every character has a rhythm to how they speak. Sentence length, patterns in how we structure our speech, etc.

As a reader, it's often hard to pick up on, but as a listener, it becomes a lot easier to understand.
This rhythm can also be mostly silence. Characters we often regard as stoic or mysterious speak only when they need to. How long a given person goes between talking is a big part of their speech pattern.
