In the ad breaks of #BrexitTheUncivilWar how about taking a look at Brexit, the uncivil reality?

For example, the loss of jobs and investment opportunities, and the fleeing capital flowing to EU27 states...
Or how Theresa May's deal *really* stacks up against no deal, and against remaining in the EU...
Or how trading on WTO would work in practice (TL/DR version: not very well at all)...
Or why we can't simply replace trade with the EU with trade with the rest of the world, including the Commonwealth...

Brexit's already costing jobs and investments.
Trading on WTO terms does. Not. Work. Not the way Brexiters describe it, anyway... The key point missing is *alone*: trading on WTO terms alone is a disaster waiting to happen.
There's no transition period in a no deal situation. It's over the cliff, out of the EU, on 29 March 2019 at 11pm. Many MPs seem to find this confusing...

Chris Heaton-Harris: "No"
"Why not?"
CHH: "I just don't. It's a personal belief."
"A personal belief? So, in your role as Minister responsible for the risks associated with no deal, you haven't conducted any deeper research into what most people would think is quite an important issue: the future of our Union?"
"The future of our Union is strong."
A couple of brief exchanges later (basically restating the same question to try and forcing a straight answer). "So, no work has been done on assessing that risk?"
CHH: "I can confirm that I have not commissioned, nor have I seen, any work on that basis."

The short of the EEA argument is the fact that we have been an EU member for 40 years and nothing less than a fully comprehensive framework for future economic collaboration with our neighbours is a sufficient replacement. It is that simple.

Had we never been part of the single market an FTA would have been sufficient and more suitable for our needs - but we have the better part of thirty years worth of economic activity working inside EU regulatory frameworks. We need to ensure its survival.
Without having all the mechanisms of recognition and proof of conformity then frictionless trade does not happen and we lose all our preferential participation in the European market. That means a hit for everything from cosmetics through to airline spares.

the feeling that best describes my #brexit emotions is:

Come on UK, I love you and respect you, but also be aware,

there’s nothing special about you as a country that means you deserve ‘special treatment’ from EU.
In the past the U.K. has had the fortune of having had clever diplomats that have secured some opt outs and special consideration. But make no mistake, when UK eventually joined the EU, we in the rest of Europe were mainly feeling sorry for you and yes we owed you a WWII favour
Since then you have done your usual thing of being the loudest in the room. You’re like the slightly embarrassing uncle at the wedding with a few good jokes. We’ve listened to you and laughed to be polite. We’ve given you the best seat at the table, but it’s never enough is it?

Ford Transit moved 2Turkey 2013 with EU grant.
Jaguar Land Rover recently agreed 2 build a new plant in Slovakia with EU grant, owned by Tata, same company who trashed our steel industry & emptied workers pension funds.

Peugeot closed its Ryton (was Rootes Group) plant and moved production to Slovakia with EU grant.
British Army's new Ajax fighting vehicles to be built in SPAIN using SWEDISH steel at the request of the EU to support jobs in Spain with EU grant, rather than Wales.

Dyson gone 2 Malaysia, with EU loan. Crown Closures, Bournemouth (Was METAL BOX), gone 2Poland with EU grant,employed 1,200.

Having spent two years remoaning about #brexit I have now quit complaining as I now see there are tremendous opportunities from leaving the European Union which will be embraced globally thread
Patrick Minford of economists for #brexit has stated that #brexit will mean the virtual end of UK manufacturing therefore many European countries will enjoy a relocation windfall
The great repeal Bill allows ministers to make ammend and unmake law without parliamentary approval meaning a huge #brexitopportunity opportunity for corrupt ministers to apply market mechanisms to political decision making

#Brexit as a concept is increasingly drifting from having anything whatsoever to do with the mechanics of leaving the EU. It is now primarily a culture war and both sides will totally ignore the details except for when they are temporarily convenient.
The consequence of this is that our future relationship with the EU will be just as readily ignored as our activities as a member. They said Brexit would make us isolated, self absorbed and insular but it seems that was always the case and there are no signs of that changing.
As ever the details will be delegated to officials and civil servants while our establishment politics drifts further into its cycle of decline, unable to usefully influence external events making us entirely passive and reactive to events rather than self-interestedly engaged.
