"Do you agree that leaving the EU without a deal increases the likelihood of support for a referendum in Northern Ireland?"

"Why not?"
CHH: "I just don't. It's a personal belief."
"A personal belief? So, in your role as Minister responsible for the risks associated with no deal, you haven't conducted any deeper research into what most people would think is quite an important issue: the future of our Union?"
"The future of our Union is strong."
A couple of brief exchanges later (basically restating the same question to try and forcing a straight answer). "So, no work has been done on assessing that risk?"
CHH: "I can confirm that I have not commissioned, nor have I seen, any work on that basis."

Vital reminder: a "no deal" Brexit is a proactive outcome. We only fall out of the EU with no deal if Theresa May and the Government *actively* will it.

Yes, no deal is the default outcome come 29 March at 11pm.

But, as the ECJ court case proved, we could ALWAYS remain instead.
So if we end up with no deal, it is 100% down to the fact that the Government chose to leave the emergency parachute of rescinding Article 50 unused, and instead send our economy and our security crashing into the no deal ground with a huge strawberry splat.

Brexit is killing people. Right now.

Because instead of focusing on homelessness, knife crime, appalling food poverty, and many other issues that lead directly to tragic loss of life, both the Government and the Opposition have been mired in the Brexit mud for over two years.
That's not going to change after Brexit Day.

Ooh, no. Not for one minute.

Brexit Day is the starting pistol on the real negotiations, the proper grownup ones that will define the shape of our future relationship with the EU.

Those could easily go on for decades before every
last matter is sorted to everyone's satisfaction.

So you'd better get used to a distracted Parliament incapable of focusing on vital issues, or of taking decisive action.

Symptomatic of Tory arrogance: they know that any plan B won't stand up to even cursory scrutiny, but decide to wing it anyway.
Of course, two plans need zero scrutiny:
- let executioner's axe fall (no deal): scrutiny pointless because we're into Mad Max territory
- take our head off the block (remain): life continues as per normal, and we get back to focusing on stuff that matters (NHS, austerity etc.)

Love Corbyn. HATE Brexit? Here’s a thread highlighting some of the stats from our @ESRCPtyMembers survey of 1034 Labour Party members together with a representative sample of 1675 voters.
83% of Labour members voted Remain in 2016. And 89% think, in hindsight and irrespective of what they themselves voted in 2016, that the UK was wrong to vote to leave the EU.
72% of Labour members (compared to 57% of current Labour voters and 61% of 2017 Labour voters) want Corbyn to fully support a new referendum on Brexit.

1. Nobody ought to be surprised by the ineptitude unfolding in British politics in respect of #Brexit. Brexit really just brings it centre stage - but it has been there all along for those who care to look...
2. Take the Iraq invasion. Our generals assured us that it was just a matter of keeping the peace and ti was our recent experience in Northern Ireland than made us the operational experts. That assessment proved to be... less than accurate. Some might say breathtakingly arrogant
3. We assumed that we could keep the peace by running a hearts and minds operation going out in soft skinned landrovers. It didn't take long for that idea to disintegrate and soon we were taking avoidable casualties and losing control of the situation.

1. A strange disease stalks the land. When a person is confronted by well documented consequences of leaving the EU without a deal they simply grunt "Project fear!". This is odd because we are not talking about #Brexit economic projections...
2. It all comes down to this little thing you might have heard of called Article 50. The pertinent part being "The Treaties shall cease to apply".
3. You see, at the moment we have a deal. We have EU membership. We are part of the treaties. And if we leave and we do not secure a withdrawal agreement and subsequent arrangements for trade then we do not have a deal. The Treaties shall cease to apply.
